IOCA North and Scotland Winter Training 1

This is session 1 of IOCA North Winter Training 2025/26 and is being run jointly with IOCA Scotland.

IOCA North Winter Training

IOCA North are running a series of training events over winter 2025/26 over 5 weekends (2 joint with Scotland).

These are open training events for all Oppy sailors.

01/02  November 2025  Derwent Reservoir SC (Joint with Scotland)

06 December 2025 Ripon SC (Single day)

17/18 January 2026 Leigh and Lowton SC

24/25 January Largs SC (Joint with Scotland)

07/08 March 2026 Derwent Reservoir SC

Sailors

As a minimum sailors taking part must be able to comfortably sail a triangular course in a range of conditions and be willing to race. They should have their own boat or access to one.

Coaching

Sailors will be assessed and placed into groups dependent on experience, ability as well as other factors to ensure that the groups provide the best training for all sailors. Each group will be led by an IOCA coach. Less experienced sailors will focus on boat handling skills. More advanced sailors will be taught the methods, skills and tactics necessary to take them to the next level when competing against their peers in open events.

Practicalities

For each session, sailors will need to be rigged and ready for 10am, with planned finish by 4pm

Sailors must bring a packed lunch and lots of warm sailing kit, layers, hats and gloves and a racing watch. 

We will need support from parents on the water and on shore to help the training run smoothly. 

Costs

Costs will be dependent on number of sailors. We aim to keep these as low as possible while still delivering high quality training. These will be confirmed approximately 1 month prior to the event with the option of sailors withdrawing at that point.

For this winter training all sailors must be IOCA members. If you are not currently a member, there are two options
